Objectives:The present study was designed to investigate the efficacy of clove powder and thyme oil against experimentally induced candidiasis in broiler chicken.
Design:Randomized controlled experimental study.
Animals: One hundred and twenty five chicken (one month old) were used in this study
Procedure:Chicken were randomly allocated into 5 equal sized groups (25 each).The 1st group was used as negative control. However,the other groups were experimentally infected with candida (C.) albicans. The 2nd group was served as positive control without treatment. Meanwhile, the 3rd,4th and 5th groups received clove powder (2%), thyme oil (200ml/kg) in diet and fluconazole (5mg/kg) for10 days, respectivelyafter the appearance of symptoms which include delayed gastrointestinal transit times, static crop or sour crop. Anorexia and regurgitation. The normal thin wall of the ingulvies become thickened with complete crop stasis.
Results: clove powder and thyme oil showedimprovement in the recorded symptoms induced by C.albicansthey also significantly increased PCV%, ALTandASTlevelwithadecrease in erythrocyte count and total leukocytecount. Clove powder increase in creatininelevel,whilethyme oil decrease creatininevalue.The tested plants induced marked histopathological alteration in crop, lung, intestine and gizzard of treated birds. |
