Abstract In the present study, we aimed to assess adiponectin in face of IGF complex in cord blood of full term SGA newborns and investigate its possible relation to growth. We assessed for levels of cord blood adiponectin, insulin and IGF-I in SGA and AGA as hormones involved in fetal growth. This study was performed on (50) neonates delivered at the labour ward of Maternity hospital of Ain Shams University during the period from December 2006 to May 2007. The study group included 30 fullterm SGA newborns with male/female ratio 3/2, mean birth weight 2.307± 0.244 (kg) and mean gestational age 37.7 ± 0.95 (weeks). Preterms, newborns with respiratory distess, hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, genetics abnormalities, congenital anomalies, congenital infection, and neonatal sepsis, infants of diabetic mothers and maternal intake of hormones during pregnancy were excluded. |
