Abstract Railways are usually seen an environmental friendly option for transport. This has recently led to considerable interest in the expansion of their role in the movement of freight and passenger, and also to solve congestion in densely populated areas, in the form of light, regional rail and tramway transit systems. unfortunately, the environmental effects of noise can work against this promotion of rail transport systems. In the present climate of environmental improvement, railway noise impacts can be considered as an important aspect in both urban and rural areas. The purpose of this thesis is to introduce new models to determinate of noise level impact from the Egyptian transport systems. These models consider not the railway operational and track characteristics, but also land use categories and background environmental noise. |
