Abstract Aim of the work To compare intravenous propofol and remifentanil combination versus inhalation of sevoflurane in induction and maintenance of anesthesia in a patient undergoing day case surgery as regard the intubation conditions also quality of anesthesia and the recovery score. Results 1- Remifentanil and propofol group provide better intubating conditions. 2- Both maintained adequate depth of anesthesia. 3- Both techniques provide a good alternative to standard anesthetic management for day case surgery. Conclusion From our results we can conclude that remifentanil/ propofol and sevoflurane are suitable for anesthetizing day case surgery. But remifentanil/ propofol combination has the advantages of more attenuating the hemodynamic response to laryngoscopy and orotracheal intubation while sevoflurane has the advantage of earlier recovery. Recommendations To conduct anesthesia for day case surgery we recommend the use of new inhalational agents like sevoflurane and intravenous agents like remifentanil that have obvious advantages in more rapid kinetics which apply our concept in anesthetizing these cases. |
