Abstract Aim of the study To compare spinal block characteristics of isobaric ropivacaine and isobaric bupivacaine for spinal anesthesia in patients undergoing elective lower limb orthopedic surgery. Conclusion Intrathecal ropivacaine prove useful when surgical anesthesia of similar quality but of shorter duration than that bupivacaine is needed thus ropivacaine offer a reliable motor block for orthopedics surgery with a predictable and rapid return of motor function after surgery. In terms of safety, both ropivacaine and bupivacaine provided higher degree of cardiovascular stability with low incidence of bradycardia. Based on these data, we feel that ropivacaine seems to be an interestingly alternative to bupivacaine for spinal anesthesia. |
