Abstract The great majority of L31c;5ct-rical motors are designed to produce rotary motion by means of electromagnetic magnetic forces. There is another type of electrical motors in which electromagnetic force is employed to produce linear motion, such motors are called ”Linear 1,.iotors% Similar to rotating motors, the most important type of linear motors are linear induction motors (L.I.M.) . Many novel applications .for the linear machines have been Proposed . Some of these include high-speed ground transpor- tation, impact extrusion, drives for belt conveyors, electro¬magnetic pumps, actuators, linear motion oscillators and electromagnetic flow meters . There are,many types of linear induction motors(4. The L.I.M. under investigation in this work is of the short stator double sided type. The magnetic field is created by two sets of three phase winding, each one of them is installed in slots on the surface of each of the two primary iron cores. The secondary member is a sheet of conducting metal, such as aluminium or copper, and it is placed in the air gap between the two primary iron cores . |
