Abstract order to examine the influence of thermal and immun(’)rcgicar sTressfur ’onments On psycho-physiologicar aspects in rerati(’)nt(’) age, a variety haviorar and physiologicar parameters were investigated in normaJ and. hyroid immunized rats of various ages maintained at neutrar (75’” F) as IS cord (500 F) temperature. The four age groups represented were: (21 day), adurt (5-6 mo.). middre aged (10-12 mo.) and 8 .•. 20 mo.); active immunity was elicited by 3 weekry injections :ine thyroglobulin emulsified in Freund’s adjuvant. The contr,.,1 rats ’jected only with Freund’s adjuvant. Hypothyroidism was induced i)Y goitrogen (tapazole) administration or by radiothyroidect(’)my (radi,.,¬tclomized rats, however, were used only under neutral temperature). i)ehavioral parameters were assessed repeatedly at several intervals after rtion. Phusiological changes were investigated at the end of 10 weeks uniza.tion. Antibody measurements were carried out at 3,5,c:rnd 10 weeks unization. BehavioraI parameters included those that reflect general vhee I -runn i ng ac liv i Iy, swi mm i ng spe<>d), emaliana Ii Iy (slartl e, vaca Ii z¬I resi, lance fa pick-up) and learning (maze performance). The phy,ia¬lestigations included the examination of several parameterf; of thyroid 3 uptake ratio, total T4 by competitive protein binding ’.:Jnalysis and ~, and free T4) as well as insulin and glucose measurem€I1ts.
