Abstract Self-esteem a learned phenomenon, or a sense of self-worth and self respect, has been reported to be associated with the osychological well-being of people in general. Self-esteem in nurses tends to be low, which may be due to oppression, stress or bullying in the profession. those with low self-esteem are affected more negatively by negative feedbock, while people with high self esteem cope bettr with and learn from negative experiences and their self-esteem acts as a buffer against stress. they are also less likely to develop psychological disorders in response to stressful life events, and can cope with and learn from negative experiences such as negative evaluation. while people with high self-esteem are viewed as more acceptable socially and are more successful.Levels of self esteem vary between individual and vary within the same individual over a period of time. this depends on life events experiened by the person at edch stage of life. These events can affect the individual’s self esteem self-concept is stated to be integrated into personality and includes a perception of self that helps to determine behavior and encounters. self-esteem is measurable, and may be reported to be high, medium, or low. each level of self-esteem is associated with certain personality characteristics. As regards nursing education individuals who feel good about themselves are confident, take pride in their work and demonstrate respect and concern for for patients and colleagues. if has been suggested that the roots for building high self-esteem may lie in the educational process. |
