Abstract Modern trends in psychiatric care are directed towards community care. Treatment of mentally ill has shifted from the large isolated custodial hospital to the community. In Egypt a policy of decentralization of health care in general has been implemented since the early sixties. This policy of community care can only succeed if positive attitudes towards mental illness are prevailing in the community. Among community members the study of nurses’ attitudes towards mental illness is of special concern because of the role they play in the prevention of mental illness early detection treatment and rehabilitation of mentally disturbed individuals. The aims of the study are: 1: To identify the nurses’ attitudes towards mental illness. 2: To determine the difference between psychiatric and non-psychiatric nurses attitudes. 3-To investigate the relation of the nurses’ attitudes to certain factors. |
