Abstract
Inspire of the new trend in psychiatric treatment which emphasizes community care psychiatric hospitals are still the main resource for mentally disturbed people in the developing countries.
Hospitalization in general is a stressful event.
Psychiatric hospitalization has a special meaning and evokes special reactions form patients families and society in general.
These reactions have a bearing on the treatment outcome.
To secure better prognosis patients reactions and feeling about hospitalization as well as factors affecting these reactions should be investigated.
In Alexandria mental hospital little attention is given to the patents reaction and feelings toward the hospital and their hospitalization.
This study was carried out to explore the psychiatric patient’s reactions to their hospitalization and to identify the factors that affect such reactions.
