Abstract The aim of this study is to study the effect of tonsillar and adenoidal hypertrophy on the arterial blood gases and pulmonary function. In conclusion this study showed that upper airway obstruction by enlarged tonsils and adenoids is a frequent problem which may be ignored by patients the preoperative measurements of arterial blood gases and pulmonary functions in patients with enlarged tonsils and adenoids may be great value. Abnormal results mean that these patients are prone to cardio respiratory complications and need urgent operation. Finding abnormal results mean that these patients are prone to cardiopulmonary complication and need urgent removal of their tonsils and adenoids. This ventilatory impairment was reversible after the operation. |
