Abstract Aim of the work The purpose of the study was to evaluate alterations of the haemostatic systen and extent to a presumed hypercoagulable state in patients with non valvular atrial fibrillation. Conclusions Our results have showed significantly increased plasma fibrinogen, decreased antithrombin III and tendency to increase plasmmiogen activator inhibitor in patients with NVAF. These results also suggested two possible thrombotic markers to assume those patients with NVAF who may be at high risk of thrombohenesis. Thrombolic risk is influenced by several factors, among which blood stasis in the atria and atrial parentage dysfunction and there is a trend to individualize prophylactic strategies in atrial fibrillation, hence hypercoagulable state may characterize a group of patients at risk who should be treated with oral anticoagulants. |
