Abstract The aim of this work is to test the hypothesis that mature fetus secrets increasing amounts of EGF in the urine and this stimulates the amniotic epithelium to produce prostaglandins that serve as a step in the onset of labor. Conclusion: Our study demonstrated that high concentration of EGF in amniotic fluid during labor however the role not known exactly. Also neonatal urine of labor mother contains more EGF than non labor. EGF may be considered as a step in the onset of labor through stimulation of amniotic epithelium to produce prostaglandins. Further studies need to detect whether the increased concentrations of the factor binding the EGF in amniotic fluid is the result of labor. If this increase does not precede labor, the role of this factor may be that of the maintenance of established parturition. |
