Abstract Local scour phenomenon downstream of single vent regulators may endanger the safety of the structure if the necessary precautions are not investigate and minimize the local scour activities due to the free hydraulic jump created DS single vent regulators An experimental program was conducted to investigate the local scour down stream a single vent regulator by designing a modified tool to control and minimize the scour activities down stream heading-up structures. Angled-guide walls were suggested as a device to minimize the local scour. It was found that, the guide-walls located at the second third of the stilling basin length act as a best performance to reduce the scour activities its . min. limit. In addition, the shape parameters (deflection angle, height, lateral spacing and thickness) of proposed guide-walls have been well defined and studied. from the analysis and discussions of the experimental results the best relative deflection angle of guide walls is <I> = 0.02871” (10.2°), the guide walls of hlYJ = 0.5 minified the different scour activities to the minimal values, the best relative lateral spacing is bolb= 0.46,As the guide walls thicknesses decrease the scour parameters also decreases and vice versa and the optimal trapezoidal channel cross section of side slope S {b/hJ = 0.29 ( 106 ° ) gave the best results of scour parameters for the cases of with and without guide walls Prediction equations which were developed using the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) were used to develop an artificial intelligence model predicting the different scour characteristics DS the stilling basin. |
