Abstract Three experiments were conducted in this investigation to study the effect of Theriogon oral administration (100 mg/kg body weight) on improving the productive and reproductive performance of Ossimi sheep. The first experiment studied the reproductive and physiological traits of adult Ossimi rams (testes circumference, urethral process length, libido, semen characteristics and testosterone hormone levels). The second experiment studied adult ewes performance during different breeding seasons (changes of body weight till lambing, estrus duration, number of services per conception, conception rate, litter size, gestation period, litter weight at birth, lamb birth weight, lamb mortality rate at birth and thyroid hormones levels) and post-lambing performance (milk production, lambs weight till weaning, survival rate, sexual activity and prolactin concentrations). The third experiment studied the effect of Theriogon on growing lambs performance post-weaning till puberty (lambs weight till puberty, body weight and age at puberty, sexual activity, semen characteristics, testosterone and thyroid hormones levels). The results revealed that the reproductive and physiological traits of adult rams were improved significantly by oral administration of Theriogon. Single dose of Theriogon for ewes and two doses of Theriogon for rams during mating period or post-lamping for ewes improved significantly the productive and reproductive traits and led to increase thyroid hormones and prolactin levels. In the third experiment, treated lambs by Theriogon were attained puberty at younger ages and heavier body weights compared to the untreated lambs. Finally, Theriogon treatment was economically better compared to the control. Key words: Theriogon, sheep, productive, reproductive, performance, season and economical evaluation. |
