Abstract Results obtained from this investigation could be summarized as follows: I-Six fungal species associated with damping-off and root rot of tomato plants were isolated and identified as Fusarium solani (Burk) Synder &Hansen, Rhizoctonia solani (Kuehn), Fusarium oxysporum (Schechtend), Sclerotium rolfsii (Saccarde), Pythium ultimum (Trow) and Phytophthora sp. 2- Frequency of the fungi isolated from infected tomato roots showed that F solani was the most prevailing fungus followed by R. solani andFoxysporum. On the contrary, Sclerotium rolfsii, Pythium ultimum and Phytophthora sp. were the least frequent. 3-Pathogenicity tests on Super marmande tomato cultivar under greenhouse conditions revealed that all tested fungi were pathogenic causing damping-off and root rots. Fusarium solani and Rhizoctonia solani were the more pathogens exhibited severe root rots, whereas, S. rolfsii, P. ultimum, Phytophthora sp. and F oxysporum were less virulent. |
