Abstract About 20 cowpea genotypes were introduced by Dr. Gamil I. Shalaby from the IITA, Ibadan, Nigeria, and, preliminary evaluated under Assiut condition. The most promising ten genotypes were selected and entered with our four local cultivars i.e., Azmerly, Balady, Fetriyat and Cream 7 in a three—year varietal trial. The results of this investigation could be summarized as follows: 1— There were significant differences among the studied genotypes in respect of most of the 14 characters studied. 2- The top yielding genotypes were Azmerly (1125.84 kg/fed.), Black eye 9 (1120.23 kg/fed.) and 1T82C—16 (836.80 kg/fed.). 3— The early flowering genotypes were 1T82D—889 (46.96 days), Tvu 21 (56.79 days), Fetriyat (61.23 days). 4— The early maturing genotypes were 1T82D—889 (76.98 days), Fetriyat (95.59 days) and Tvu 21 (97.90 days). 5- The highest seed yield/plant genotypes were Azmerly (61.32 g/plant), 1T82D—716 (53.12 g/plant), and Black eye 9 (52.46 g/plant). |
