Abstract This work was aiming to prepare an economic superabsorbent polymeric hydrogel from cellulosic material (baggase and cotton linter) for water sorption and metal ions uptake. The study involved a comparison in behavior between cotton linter and baggase pulps (prepared at two different pulping conditions) towards gel formation. The cotton linter that was used in this study was already bleached.
