Abstract In some patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), we noticed that there is no apparent conventional major risk factors. By thorough history interrogation, family history of diabetes mellitus was common among these patients. Moreover, Frank diabetes usually appears in these patients even years later on after the first coronary event; angina pectoris or myocardial infarction. Furthermore, what is called stress hyperglycaemia is a common finding in some of these patients during their first heart attack. This study has included 125 patients ; diabetics and having a family history of diabetes mellitus ; with an evidence of ischemic heart diseases ( IHD ) ranging from 30 years to 66 years in age. Patients were classified into five main groups :- Group (1):- Patients having family history of diabetes mellitus without IHD Group (2):- Patients having family history of diabetes mellitus with evidence of IHD Group (3) :- Known diabetic patients without IHD Group (4) :- Known diabetic patients suffering from IHD Group (5) ( Control group ) :- Patients without family history of diabetes mellitus nor IHD . |
