Abstract Conflict is a clash or a struggle that occurs when real or perceived threat or difference exists in the desires, thoughts, attitudes, feelings, or behaviors of two or more parties. This study aims to assess the types of conflict among staff nurses, identify conflict resolution techniques used by head nurses, and determine for leadership style of head nurses and relation between conflict resolution techniques and leadership style. The study setting was in general departments in Al-Amery and Al-Nasr hospitals in Port Said City on a total sample of 270 staff nurses and 36 head nurses. Results revealed that total conflict among staff nurses was 21.9%, and the most common types were disruption and competitive and intrapersonal, while interpersonal was less frequent. Collaboration technique was mostly used as a resolution technique, while avoiding was not utilized. Regarding leadership style of head nurses, the moderately participative and democratic styles were mostly used. No statistically significant relationship could be reve=1led between leadership style and conflict resolution technique.- |
