Abstract In this work, a study of contaminated water bodies and its effects on neighbourhood was carried out . The scale which determines the concentration of contaminants is different according to the usage of water body. To control contaminant transport through porous medium by using sheet piles is conducted, instead of using a biological operation, to decrease the concentration of contaminants in the water body. The flow equation through porous media as well as the transport equations of contaminated water body are solved numerically by finite element techniques. Design charts are presented for quantifying the effects of the sheet pile wall on the hydraulic control of the groundwater flow field. The used numerical model has many variables such as depth of sheet pile, distance between sheet pile and contaminated water body, the head of contaminated water body, as well as the hydraulic conductivity. Recommendations • The effect of time must take in consideration as a variable affects on the contamination transport. • The study of the 2-D finite element program to be a 3-D program in order to be able to simulate more actual field problem. |
