Abstract No doubt that sexual harassment has a negative effect (either physical or psychological) on the women in any where and in any age. Three of its negative effects are depression, anxiety and low self esteem. The aims of this study were to assess the prevalence rate of sexual harassment among Menofia university students, identify the factors leading to the phenomenon of sexual harassment and investigate the psychological impact of sexual harassment on Menofia university students. The sample consisted of 397 student of the first and fourth year from the faculty of arts and faculty of medicine in Menofia University. The study design was a cross-sectional analytic design. Data were collected using four tools, (1) an interviewing questionnaire, (2) Questionnaire about factors leading to sexual harassment, (3) Eysenck personality Questionnaire, (4) Depression scale, Anxiety and Self esteem scale. The results revealed that 73.3% of the studied subjects were age group of Less than or equals 20 years while only 26.7% were in age group of over than 20 years. 80.1% of total sample exposed to sexual harassment. The most common factor leading to sexual harassment was related to the girl (40.8%). 58.8% of the students have severe depression while 50.3% have severe anxiety and finally 47.2% have severe low self esteem. In conclusion, the result of this study indicated a relation between factors leading to sexual harassment, sexual harassment and depression, anxiety and low self-esteem.
