Abstract Constant voltage-constant frequency (CVCF) operation of a self excited induction generator driven by a wind turbine for stand alone applications under disturbances in wind speed and/or load value is studied and simulated with matlab’s standard blocks. It is shown that, a cage type induction generator can be used with controlled external loads and with a static V AR compensator as a CVCF source. from the general model of the self-excited induction generator, its characteristics are investigated and the dynamic responses of the system in case of any disturbance are examined. Next, the control strategies are developed for the squirrel-cage rotor induction generator. Two control loops are necessary for CVCF operation of a variable speed induction generator, one for the voltage regulation and the other for the frequency regulation. After developing the control loops, CVCF operation of the self-excited induction generator is simulated with a cage type saturation adaptive induction generator, a fixed capacitor with a thyristor controlled reactor (TCR) is used for frequency regulation. Fuzzy control for the frequency regulation and the voltage regulation is investigated. It is shown that fuzzy controller is better than PI controller for voltage regulation. |
