Abstract In this experiment, a stack of Fuji EMUll type of nuclear emulsion was exposed to the 160 A GeV 208Pb beam in CERN, SPS. Each emulsion plate consisted of a 350 11m thick acrylic base coated with a 70 11m Fuji EMUll emulsion layer on each plate side. pellicle of the stack 4x 12xO.07 cm3 dimensions. The flux of the incoming 208Pb beam was 1000 ions / cm2 • A sample of 404 inelastic 208Pb -Em interactions was collected. In a total scanned length of about 1967.47 em of the primary 208Pb beam tracks, The experimental value of the average mean free path (Aexp) due to 208Pb interactions in the emulsion is found to be Aexp = 4.87 ± 0.12 em. The aim of this work, an overview on multifragmentation at high energy is carried out. For this purpose a wide range of projectile mass numbers (1 to 208) is used. The projectile beams were accelerated at JINR (Dubna), (LBNL and BNL, U. S. A.), as well as CERN. Different types of nuclear emulsion (NIKFI-BRl, FUJI, and ILFORD-G5) are used as a target and 4-n space detector, together. Although the ranges of the incident energy (IA to 200A GeV) and the projectile mass numbers (1 to 208) are wide, the target fragments multiplicity is limited to a constant value. This behavior is regarded as a limiting fragmentation hypothesis, which is exhibited beyond 1 GeV. |
