Abstract Noise is beooming a great problem in countries throughout the world • Traffic noise represents the greateat noise Bource in towns. The main factors governing the resulting traffio noiae level are the traffio density, nature of flow and the width of the road or the area of the square . The traffic noise problems in developing countries are expected to be different from those in advanced countries. This thesia ia divided into five chapters. Chapter 1 deals with noise sources and its effects as well ae the principle of noise control. In addition, ethods of reduoing traffic noise are discussed. Chapter two is concerned with the noise wu.li!sl’S .and criteria. Mathematical formulas for continuous and discontinuous traffic flow are discuBsed in chapter 3. Chapter 4 illustrates materiels and methods ;.:.::; ed. In chapter five , results and discussion are give n, the annoyance and the mathematical formulas for statistical noise levels are given. Empirical expreasions for the prediction of noise levels according to the traffic density of different types of vehicles are obtained. |
