Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to prepare polymeric biomaterials (β- chitin and chitosan) from the pens of squid, and observe the parameters that can enhance the degree of deacetylation of chitosan production to the highest percentage. The observed parameters are the temperature of deacetylation, and swelling ratio the time of deacetylation.
The properties of chitosan and these blends have been demonstrated by (FT-IR – XRD - swelling ratio) .Some of the biological properties of the prepared chitosan were studied.
The second part of the study is to prepared chitosan/poly (acrylic acid) blend of compositions 4/2, 4/3, 4/4, 4/5 and 4\9 wt/wt using electrochemical technique at a constant voltage (2 volt) at room temperature at different concentration of aqueous- acrylic acid medium.
Dielectric properties and electrical conductivity of the polymers, chitosan and chitosan/poly (acrylic acid) complexes in the temperature range of 303 – 433 K and in the frequency range of 1 – 105 Hz have been reported.
