Abstract

Two typesof activated carbon(AC)wereprepared from palmtree fibers(AC1)and ricehusk(AC2)bychemical activation method using phosphoric acid techniques. These twotypesofAC were examined as adsorbents for basic dyemethylene blue. Different factor saffecting the removal capacity were examined too ptimize the process. Batchadsorption studies were concluded toevaluate thee ffectsofcontact time, initialcon centration (10–75mg/l),pH (1.5–10.7),and adsorbentdose(1.0–20.0g/l)ontheremoval of dye at temperature of 25ºC. The experimental results were analyzed by three different types of isotherms: Langmuir isotherm, Freundlichiso thermand Temkinisotherm. Langmuir is otherm was found to be the most applicable model. The monolayer adsorpti on capacity of AC1and AC2 forme thylene blue was found to be 54.05 and 38.16mg/g,respectively Keywords : Activated carbon, adsorption, methyleneblue isotherm.
