Abstract The efect of gasoline/methyl alchol fuel mixtures on the performance and exhaust emission of spark ignition engies have been investigated experimentally. A series of expermental investigation have been carried out on a single cylinder air cooled spark ingnition engine and results are presented and discussed. These results indicated that the use of two carburetors in series, one for methanol and the other for gasoline able to miscibilty prroblem has been solved by use the two carburetors to form fuel-mixtures with adequate accuracy. The wa noticed that increasing the a reduction in specific heat consumption leading to an imorove of the engine thermal efficieny. On the other side, the shift in the air-fuel ratio was found to be sufficient to suit the fuel blends. Finally the gradual decrease in CO emission has been noticed with the increase in the alchol content . While an increase in the HC emission than that for gasoline has been obseved with use of different alcohol blends. The results indicated that similar improvement are expected for any engine operating on these fuels. |
