Abstract Plantar fasciitis is one of the most commoncauses of heel pain syndrome in the field of foot and ankle surgery. It occurs in up to 10% of the population predominantly in patients over 40 years of age and the exact etiology of plantar fasciitis is still uncertain. The majority of patients show significant improvement when treated with conservative measures which includes; reassurance,physiotherapy,non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID), local corticosteroid injection, night splint, rigidly soled shoe, or case immobilization. Though conservative treatment is usually successful in 90% of patients, surgery may be necessary in resistant cases where all conservative measures failed to improve pain. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the clinical outcome of different techniques in the treatment of isolated plantar fasciitis either endoscopic or open surgical release accompanied by heel spur excision. Fourteen patients with 17 feet whom included in this study werediagnosed to have plantar fasciitis either unilateral and/or bilateral for at least 6 months before surgery with failure of conservative treatment to control pain. Patients were classified into 2 groups according to the technique of surgical treatment they will receive. Seven patients with 7 feet had endoscopic plantar fascia release while 9 patients with 10 feet received their treatment in the form of open surgical release. |
