Abstract In the present study, the relationship between S. mansoni infection and experimentally induced allergic airway 0.001and P <0.05). The difference between the last two groups was insignificant (P > 0.05). The difference between IAA group (group I) and SEA immunized group (group V) was significant (P<0.05). Their values were 2±0.8 and 0.6±0.7 respectively. This difference did not reach significance when IAA group (group I) was compared to S. mansoni infected group (group IV); 1.1±0.9 cells/10h.p.f. or the negative control group (group VI); 0.9±0.9 cells/10h.p.f. (P > 0.05 for both groups).Highly significant difference was detected when S. mansoni-IAA group (group II); 9.4±2.4 cells/10h.p.f. and SEA-IAA group (group III); 10.7±7.6 were compared to the control groups either S. mansoni infected group (group IV); 1.1±0.9 cells/10h.p.f., SEA immunized group (group V); 0.6±0.7 cells/10h.p.f. or the negative control group (group VI); 0.9±0.9 cells/10h.p.f. (P <0.001 for all with group II and P <0.05 for all with group III).The mean T helper (CD4+) cell count / 10h.p.f. in IAA group (group I) was significantly higher than both S. mansoni-IAA group (group II) and SEA-IAA group (group III). Their values were 69.0±22.3, 22.0±5.9 and 22.6±13.4 cells/10h.p.f. respectively (P <0.01 for both). The difference between the last two groups was insignificant (P >0.05). Highly significant difference was detected between IAA group (group I); 69.0±22.3 cells/10h.p.f. and the control groups either S. mansoni infected group (group IV), SEA immunized group (group V) or the negative control group (group VI) with mean counts of 1.6±0.7, 1.9±1.4 and 1.5±0.5 cells/10h.p.f. respectively (P <0.001 for all). Highly significant difference was detected between S. mansoni–IAA group (group II); 22.0±5.9 cells/10h.p.f. and the control groups mentioned above (P <0.001 for all). The SEA-IAA group group III); 22.6±13.4 cells/10h.p.f. was significantly higher than the control groups mentioned above (P <0.05 for all).Regarding the mean T cytotoxic (CD8+) cell count / 10h.p.f., IAA group (group I) was significantly lower than both S. mansoni-IAA group (group II) and SEA-IAA group (group III). Their values 4.8±2.9, 10.5±4.4 and 8.1±4.0 cells/10h.p.f. respectively (P <0.01 for both). The difference between the last two groups was insignificant (P >0.05). The IAA group (group I); 4.8±2.9 cells/10h.p.f. was significantly higher than the control groups either S. mansoni infected group (group IV); 1.9±0.9 cells/10h.p.f., SEA immunized group (group V); 0.9±0.9 cells/10h.p.f. or the negative control group (group VI); 0.9±0.7 cells/10h.p.f. (P <0.01, <0.05 and <0.05 respectively). Highly significant difference was detected between S. mansoni–IAA group (group II); 10.5±4.4 cells/10h.p.f. and the control groups mentioned above (P <0.01 for all). The SEA-IAA group (group III); 8.1±4.0 cells/10h.p.f. was significantly higher than the control groups mentioned above (P <0.01 for all).Concerning theConcerning theConcerning theConcerning theConcerning theConcerning theConcerning theConcerning theConcerning theConcerning theConcerning the comparison between the mean CD4+ /CD8+ cell ratio among studied groups, the mean CD4+/CD8+ cell ratio of IAA group (group I); 19.2± 12.4 was significantly higher than both S. mansoni-IAA group (group II) and SEA-IAA group (group III); 2.6± 1.5 and 3.1± 2.0 respectively (P < 0.001 for both groups). Insignificant difference was found between the last two groups (P >0.05). Highly significant difference was detected between IAA group (group I); 19.2± 12.4 and the control groups either S. mansoni infected group (group IV); 1.0± 0.6, SEA immunized group (group V); 1.9± 1.4 or the negative control group (group VI); 1.4± 0.6 (P <0.001 for all). Insignificant difference was detected between S. mansoni infected group (group IV); 1.0± 0.6 and SEA immunized group (group V)with a mean of 1.9± 1.4 or the negative control group (group VI) which was 1.4± 0.6 (P > 0.05). Insignificant difference was detected when SEA immunized group (group V); 1.9± 1.4 was compared to the negative control group (group VI); 1.4± 0.6 (P > 0.05).As regards to the comparison between mean serum anti-ovalbumin IgE level among the studied groups, the mean value of serum anti-ovalbumin IgE in IAA group (group I); 10.1±3.1 ng/ml. was significantly higher than both S. mansoni-IAA group (group II) and SEA-IAA group (group III) with values of 3.7±1.8 ng/ml and 4.6±1.9 ng/ml. respectively (P < 0.001 and < 0.01 respectively). Insignificant difference was found between the last two groups (P >0.05).Concerning the type of correlation between serum anti-ovalbumin IgE level and different types of studied cells, insignificant negative correlation was detected between serum anti-ovalbumin IgE level and T-regs count /10h.p.f. either in IAA group (group I); -0.52 , S. mansoni–IAA group (group II); -0.28 or SEA-IAA group (group III); -0.23 (P > 0.05 for all).Significant positive correlation was detected between serum anti-ovalbumin IgE level and CD4+ cells count /10h.p.f. in IAA group (group I); 0.83 (p <0.01). The other two groups, showed insignificant positive correlations with r-values 0.15 and 0.62. respectively (P > 0.05 for both).Insignificant negative correlation was detected between serum anti-ovalbumin IgE level and CD8+ cells count /10h.p.f. in IAA group (group I); -0.002 , S. mansoni-IAA group (group II); -0.34 and SEA-IAA group (group III); -0.16 (P > 0.05 for all).Insignificant positive correlation was detected between serum anti-ovalbumin IgE level and CD4+/CD8+ cell ratio either in IAA group (group I); 0.44 or S. mansoni-IAA group (group II); 0.06 (P > 0.05 for both). Significant positive correlation was detected between serum IgE level and CD4+ /CD8+ cell ratio of SEA-IAA group (group III); 0.79 (P <0.01). |
