Abstract The heart develops early during pregnancy. Its cells gradually develops to perform their functions. This work aimed at studying the histological changes of the heart (by light and scanning electron microscopes) during development in normal albino rat heart and after injection of cisplatin, hydrocortisone or both drugs to the pregnant and adult female rats. In this study, 150 rat embryos and 50 female adult rats were used. They were divided as follows: Control Group: • 15 embryos at ages of 10 days, 18 days and full term (5 embryos each age). • 5 adult female rats. Experimental group: • 135 embryos. They were obtained from pregnant mothers injected with either cisplatin (at the first and seventh day of pregnancy), hydrocortisone (every other day) or both drugs (were also injected using the same regimen). 45 embryos were obtained from the three subgroups The hearts were taken and examined at ages of 10 days, 18 days and full term (15 embryos each). |
