Abstract Pseudomonas aeruginosa is clinically important pathogen because it became increasingly recognized as the aetiological agent in a variety of serious infections in hospitalized patients particularly with impaired immune defence, in addition to its resistance to many antimicrobial agents. Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains were isolated from different clinical samples obtained from Tanta University Hospital during the period from April 1994 to February 1995. Seventy Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains were isolated and identified from 309 different clinical samples (22.7%), the highest incidence of Pseudomonas aeqimsa was detected in bum wound samples (47.3%) followed by urine samples (20.3%), orthopaedic wound samples and sputum samples (20%), conjunctival samples (18%), surgical wound samples (13.3%) and ear discharge (8.9%). |
