Abstract Polypropylene is a versatile thermoplastic material, Egyptian Propylene and polypropylene company is the only polypropylene producer in Egypt and one of the biggest producers in the middle east the company is designed for producing 350,000 ton per year 70% from the is Homopolymer, 20% is Random copolymer and 10% High Impact compolymer. The solid-state characteristics of polypropylene occur because the propylene monomer is asymmetrical in shape. This asymmetrical nature of the propylene monomer thus creates several possibilities for linking them together into polymer chains that are not possible with the symmetrical ethylene monomer, and gives rise to what are known as structural isomers and stereochemical isomers in the polypropylene chain Tacticity of polypropylene is defined by the stereochemistry of the pending methyl group (CH3). Polypropylene may be synthesized in three different forms: isotactic, syndiotactic and atactic. The present study focus on the factors which effect on the process and consequently determine the optimum operating conditions for isotactic polypropylene production from propylene monomer using Ziegler Natta catalyst and the effect of changing reaction temperature, reaction residence time, catalyst activator concentration and the poisons level on the required amount of selectivity control agent (C-Donor) for producing polypropylene with the same isotactic content. |
