acceptance / rejection and its relationship with Self-Concept
among youth with minor intellectual disabilities (ages ranging
from 20 to 30 years).

women with minor intellectual disabilities and (30) young men
and women with no disabilities with ages ranging from 20 to
30 years having jobs and not working.
Hypotheses:
The study hypotheses were formulated as follows:
1- There is a statistically significant difference between the
maternal acceptance / rejection and self- concept among
youth with minor intellectual disabilities and youth with no
disability.
2- There is a significant statistically correlation between the
parental acceptance / rejection and self-concept among
youth with minor intellectual disabilities.
3- There are statistically significant differences between males
and females in:
a. maternal Acceptance and Rejection in the whole
questionnaire .
b. aggression / hostility .
c. warmth / love in the opposite direction of rejection.
٢
d. negligence and apathy
e. non- specific rejection .
4- There are statistically significant differences between males
and females on the self- concept.
5- There are statistically significant differences between
employed and non- employed youth with intellectual
disabilities in:
a. maternal acceptance and rejection as a whole .
b. warmth & Love ( the opposite direction of rejection .
c. aggression / hostility .
d. negligence and apathy .
e. non- specific rejection .
6- There is a statistically significant difference between
employed and non- employed youth with intellectual
disabilities in self-concept.
7- There is a statistically significant difference between the
youth with disability who obtained the highest score in the
study and those who obtained the lowest grades among the
total sample of the study.
Study Tools:
1- Parental Acceptance / Rejection Questionnaire Mamdouha
Salama, 1987 Translated from Measure of parental
Acceptance/ Rejection, Rohner, 1984, The Anglo Egyptian
Bookshop.
2- Self-Concept Test for Adults. Emad El Ddin Mohamed

Abdelkader, 2000 , the Anglo Egyptian Bookshop. Cairo.
Statistical Analysis:
Data was processed by several statistical methods to
verify the hypotheses set in this study:
1) Correlation Coefficient.
2) T- Test.
Results:
1. There is a statistically significant differences between
maternal Acceptance / Rejection and self- concept among
youth with minor intellectual disabilities and youth with no
disability at the 0.001 level in favor of youth with no
disabilities.
2. There is coefficient correlation between Self- Concept and
both Aggression and Rejection at the 0.01 level of
significance which matches with the weak correlation
between Self- Concept and warmth, negligence and the
scale as a whole .
٤
3. There are no statistically significant differences between
males and females:
a. In maternal Acceptance and Rejection in the whole
questionnaire.
b. In aggression / hostility.
c. In warmth & Love (the opposite direction of rejection).
d. In negligence and apathy.
e. In non- specific rejection.
4- There is no a statistically significant differences between
males and females in self- concept.
5- There are no a statistically significant differences between
employed and non- employed youth with intellectual
disabilities in.
a. maternal acceptance and rejection as a whole .
b. warmth & Love in ( opposite direction of rejection) .
c. aggression / hostility .
d. negligence and apathy .
e. non- specific rejection .
6- There is no a statistically significant difference between
employed and non- employed youth with intellectual
disabilities in Self-Concept.
7- There is no a statistically significant difference between the
youth with disability who obtained the highest score in the
study and those who obtained the lowest one grades among
the total sample of the study.
