Abstract This study was carried out on lung and tracheal samples with P.M. lesions (congested blood vessels, congested mucosa and serous fluids) of slaughtered cattle (n=220) from slaughterhouses in Giza governorate, Egypt, during autumn and winter seasons. These samples were screened against BoHV-1 by virus isolation (VI) using MDBK cell lines, indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA), immuno-peroxidase monolayer assay (IPMA), virus neutralization test (VNT) and nested polymerase chain reaction (nested-PCR) utilizing glycoprotein B (gB) gene. Out of the total samples, 27/220 (12.27%) samples showed CPEs. Intranuclear fluorescence granules in 21/220 (9.54%) by IFA, intranuclear brown precipitate 23/220 (10.45%) by IPMA, 20/220 samples (9.09%) by VNT and 20/220 (9.09%) by nested-PCR. This study reports the isolation and characterization of 20 isolates of BoHV-1 from slaughtered cattle in Egypt. |
