Abstract Cicatricial alopecias are set of disorders result in permanent hair loss. This work was done to study histopathological changes in cicatricial alopecia. The study was conducted on 26 patients. Cases were selected from out patients’ Dermatology clinic at Al-Minia University Hospital. Patients with cicatricial alopecia were classified into four main groups Discoid lupus erythematosus,)Central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia) Lichen planopilaris IV) Late traction alopecia. One skin biopsy was taken from the edge of lesions. All of the specimens of the patients were sectioned horizontally. The histopathological evaluation of transverse sections revealed that lymphocytic infiltrate was present more at the upper follicle in DLE, CCCA and in LPP so damage is severe and irreversible, while in TA infiltrate were sparse or even absent although the fibrosis occurred. In conclusion, transverse sectioning of scalp biopsies is a valuable tool for better evaluation of cases of cicatricial alopecia. |
