Abstract The thesis comprises three chapters: The first one includes a literature survey on the coordination chemistry of the biologically active imidazole compounds mainly from the spectroscopic and electrochemical view points. The second chapter describes the procedures used for the preparation of the metal complexes. The elemental analyses are included too. Most of the complexes are with the stoichiometry (1:2). Standarization of the instruments (spectra, magnetism, electrical conductivity and polarography) are given. Also, the preparation of the solutions and purification of the solvents are included. The results and discussions are given in the third chapter. The stereochemistry of the prepared complexes is reached based on the electronic spectral measurements and the magnetic moment values. The cobalt (II) complexes of 5-nitro- and 6-nitrobenzi- midazole ligands are consistent with octahedral structures. However, the nickel (II) complexes are with tetrahedral. |
