Abstract Synthetic pyrethroids constitute a unique group of insecticides having better performance characteristics and account for over 30% of the insecticides used globally in agriculture and home formulation. DLM is one of the most potent pyrethroids. DLM induces lipid peroxidation which is a marker of oxidative damage, which plays an important role in the toxicity of many pesticides. It induces oxidative stress and resulted in the recorded histomorphological alterations and apoptosis which involved expression of p53 and Bax. It causes DNA damage in Single Cell Gel Electrophoresis Assay (COMET). Increase of transaminase activity along with the decreased of content of free radical scavengers are probably the consequence of DLM induced pathological changes in liver and other visceral organs. Many pharmacological effects were reported on ginger and its pungent conistituents, fresh and dried rhizome. Among the pharmacological effects demonstrated are anti-platelet, antioxidant, anti-tumour, anti-rhinoviral, anti-hepatotoxicity and anti-arthritic effect. The aqueous extract of ginger rhizome exhibited reducing power and prevented free radical-induced lipid and DNA peroxidation. Ginger extract ameliorates the histopathological alterations caused by DLM Moreover, it caused decrease of apoptosis as indicated by decrease of expression of p53 and bax. It improves the histological alterations and reduces apoptosis. Ginger-free phenolic and ginger hydrolyzed phenolic fractions of ginger exhibited free radical scavenging, inhibited lipid peroxidation, DNA. |
