Abstract Cancer is a major disease at worldwide level, accounting for more than 7 million death /year. Progress made in cancer therapy has not been sufficient to significantly lower annual death rates from most epithelial twnors types, and there is an urgent need for new strategies in cancer control (young, 2000). Chemoprevention aims to halt or reverse the development and progression of precancerous cells through use of nutrients and/or pharmacological agents during the time period between tumor intiation and malignancy (Kelloff ,1999). To investigate the potential cancer chemopreventive effect of some Sinularia polydactyla extracts which is one of marine natural product from Red sea, this study was designed to contain: Tumor anti-initiating activity of Sinularia polydactyla extracts : Effect on Glutathione-S- Transferase (GST) It was found that S. Polydactyla extracts, which were sp-3-13-3-1, sp-3- 13-2, sp-3-13-4, sp-4-3-7 and sp-4-3-9 incubated with cultured MCF-7 cancer cell line for 24 hours showed a non-significant (p>O.05) increase in GST activity and that at concentration 12.5 Ug/ml. |
