Abstract Trending to green and sustainable building became inevitable during the increasing crises of global current lack of resources and energy besides all forms of pollution. Architects play an important role in reducing the environmental impact of their building through a good understanding of the negative impact of construction process during a full life cycle and how to reduce it. selecting matrials and products for high performance green building is not an easy task. There are a lot of considerations and criteria for comparing the available options, and that the research hypothesis. The research focuses on the environment impact related to building materials, products and components starting from extraction , manufacturing, installation, operation and maintenance till end of the building life and how to assess and compare it with alternatives based on its environmental efficiency . Proving the research hypothesis by: first: explaining the environmental impact of building materials on resources, ecosystems and human health. Second: presenting different assessment methods that help select ecoefficient materials. Third : studying and analyzing different example projects that achieve sustainability and materials eco-efficiency. Fourth: conducting an experimental practical application using life cycle assessment (LCA) to assess and compare two optional designs based on their environmental impact. Finally: the research ends with the main conclusions and recommendations that can improve the selection of building materials and contribute to reducing environmental impact and achieve sustainability. |
