Abstract Quality of Service (QoS) is an essential part in LTE networks. This is to be able to satisfy users’ needs for all applications, especially when bandwidth is limited. There are parts in QoS control process, the most important one is “Packet Scheduling”, which is responsible for determining packets should be sent to the users every millisecond. The research problem: In this thesis, the effects of different packet scheduling algorithms on LTE network performance are introduced. The algorithms studied in this thesis are:(i) First In First Out, (ii) Priority Queuing, (iii) Weighted Fair Queuing, (iv) Proportional Fair, (v) Modified-Largest Weighted Delay First, (vi Exponential-rule, (vii) Logarithmic-rule. In this thesis also, an introduction for the 5th Generation mobile network is included along with a description of Cloud RAN new technology. The effects of packet scheduling algorithms on the performance of Cloud RAN network are presented. Finally, a new algorithm was developed to solve some problems in Cloud RAN network. Research aims: Study the effects of different packet scheduling algorithms on mobile networks Steps of the study: General explanation of QoS process, then focusing on packet scheduling as a part of QoS process along with detailed study for different types of packet scheduling algorithms. The last step is presenting the simulation results that shows the effects of each packet scheduling algorithm on the performance of mobile network The study concludes: Packet scheduling algorithms that consider channel status between the users & the network are better than those ignore the status of this channel and they must be used in LTE networks. Moreover, a new packet scheduling algorithm is introduced that solves the problems of 5th G networks. |
