Abstract Adolescence is the time of intense physical, social, cognitive and sexual development, so education about menstruation must be started before the girl reaches puberty. The aim of the current study was to assess effect of counseling about menstruation and menstrual hygiene on the knowledge and practice of secondary nursing students. The Design of this study was quasi-experimental. The participants comprised all eligible students in grade 1and 2 amounting to 120 students. Tools of this study included a questionnaire sheet which covers all items related to, menstrual knowledge, practices ,anatomy and physiology of female reproductive system, The findings revealed that there was a significant improvement in student’s knowledge about nearly all menstruation related items in pre intervention compared to post intervention. It is concluded that counseling was effective in improving student’s knowledge and practice regarding menstruation and menstrual hygiene. It is recommended that findings from this study could serve as a baseline for further interventional studies regarding menstruation and menstrual hygiene. |
