Abstract Twenty seven waste extracts such as strawberry calyx, tamarind seeds and, red onion skin, watermelon aerial part were tested for their total phenolic content and antioxidant activity. Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) aerial part was selected for further bio-guided fractionation and phytochemical investigation of bioactive compounds. Various compounds have been isolated from the aerial part of C. lanatus. One compound was isolated for the first time from nature Biological evaluation of either fractions and/or pure compounds for antioxidant and cytotoxic activities was studied. In addition to metabolic analysis of C. lanatus extract by rat intestinal bacteria and liver microsomes using reversed phase HPLC. Besides, feasibility study of a project that conducted to utilize watermelon aerial parts for production of chemical compounds. |
