Abstract Harmonics, as one of the Power Quality (PQ) problems in power systems, are considered as the source of a variety of annoying effects. This thesis concerns with the investigation of harmonics and their sup-pression in power systems. Therefore, a fully-automated centralized com-pensator is used based on shunt active power filters in the online mode to inject suitable anti-harmonic currents to obtain quasi-sinusoidal voltages that are maintained at their rated magnitudes. from the results analysis, the following conclusion and suggestion for the future work can be shown as follows: 7.1 Conclusions Regarding the harmonics simulation using ETAP for the water de-salination plant, the obtained results show a remarkable harmonics distortion at different buses and under different loading conditions. It is essential in various loading conditions to eliminate or mitigate these harmonic distortions. The ANNs succeeded to identify the harmonic contents of any waveform in the online mode. The accuracy of the ANN for identi-fying real harmonic contents is higher than that of identifying the imaginary contents. So, identifying the harmonic magnitudes and the fundamental phase angle are more suitable in this research. In addition, the developed ANN-based criterion for deciding the suita-ble harmonics orders showed high accuracy. |
