Abstract This research aim to develop new ways to improve the properties of some kinds of resins based on silicon indicators. These modified resins enable us to use these resins in different applications. In this study, a series of Novolac phenolic-resins; phenol, resorcinol or pyrogallol-formaldehyde were modified with aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS) and tetrachlorosilane (TCS) to yielding six new composites. The new composites have high thermal resistance to be used in the treatment of water and for manufacturing of fire resistant material. The study is divided in two major sections: First Section: developing improved resins and demonstrating their chemical structure. The structural elucidation of the modified resins were assigned on the basis of spectral analyses, such as Fourier Transform infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and the relative analysis of the elements of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and titration using pH and X-ray diffraction. Section II: Using some of the new compounds in some practical applications. This section is divided into two parts: 2.1 Application of PF-APS in fire retarding: 2.2 Water quality and Applications of PF-APS in wastewater treatment. The results showed that the PF-APS has high efficiency reached to 37% in fire retardant and efficiency reached to 100% for heavy metals removal from water. |
