Abstract C-steel is an important material for petroleum equipments, design vessels in different industrial processes. The corrosion and corrosion inhibition of C-steel in different media become very interesting and important owing to its wide applicability in industry. The purpose of the present investigation was to study the corrosion and corrosion inhibition of C-steel in different concentrations of acetic acid by using different techniques such as hydrogen evolution, mass loss and potentiodynamic polarization techniques. The inhibition effect of some pyridenone derivatives as corrosion inhibitors towards the corrosion of C- steel in acetic acid. The effect of temperature on the inhibition process is studied. The mechanism of inhibition is based on the adsorption step accorging to Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The adsorption and thermodynamic parameters are calculated and discussed. The thesis comprises three main chapters:- Chapter (I) is concerned with an introduction part about the importance of corrosion and early studies on the behavior of steel in different aqueous solutions. The electrochemical reactions, types of corrosion and the ways of corrosion inhibition, in addition to a review on the relevant literature related to the project of investigation. Also, the aim of the work is included in this chapter. Chapter (II) deals with experimental part, which includes the different types of used electrodes, different techniques and methods of preparation of electrodes and solutions. |
