Abstract This study was planned to evaluate the role of human papilloma virus (HPV) in skin tag pathogenesis. Materials and methods: Polymerase chain reaction was used in the samples taken from 30 patients with skin tags and ten normal persons as controls Results: Twenty five lesional specimens (skin tags) (71.4%) were positive for HPV DNA 6, 11, two non lesional specimens (skin surround skin tags) (13.3%) were positive for HPV DNA 6, 11 and the ten specimens of the control group were negative for HPV DNA. No detection to HPV16,18 in any specimens. Conclusio •Human papilloma virus types 6, 11 DNA were detected by PCR in skin tags biopsy specimens but not in controls and this supports the association of HPV and skin tags •High risk HPV types 16, 18 were absent in skin tags. Recommendati. Further studies with larger sample size will be needed to support these results. |
