Abstract This investigation includes ecological, eco-physiological and phytochemical studies on Schouwia thebaica Webb. It was carried out to elucidate the favourable environmental conditions for the plant growth and to represent the general chemical constituents of Sclwuwia thebaica as a wild plant. It was collected from two localities ; the 1g one was at 1Okm west of Dahab city and the 2”d was at 25km north of Sharm El Sheikh city. In addition to the previous studies, some treatments were used to increase the percentage of seed germination to protect the plant from extinction. The ecological and eco-physiological investigations revealed that Sharm El-Sheikh habitat is the favourable habitat for its growth and reproduction. However, the phytochemical study on Sclwuwia thebaica plant revealed that it contained five flavonoid compounds namely; kaempferol, kaempferol - 3-0-a-L- rhamnoside, kaempferol -3-0-13-D-glucoside, Quercetin and Quercetin-3-0-glucoside-7-0-rutinoside. The seed germination study clarified that the best germination of Schouwia thehaica seeds obtained by soaking in GA3 . or zymogen solution at 150ppm for 24 hours then left to germinate in light. |
