Abstract News media could be used to direct public opinion to certain political attitudes, using biased coverage to over-represent some political views while ignoring others. The aim of this study is to explore media ethics and the effect of media bias on public opinion with a special reference to selected plays by David Hare, Howard Brenton and Rajiv Joseph. Hare and Brenton shed light on the importance of this tool in forming public consciousness. Media monopolies in the 1980s and biased coverage of news in Iraq war (2001) are put into focus. The selected plays deal with different aspects related to journalistic editorial ethics in the 80s and biased coverage of Iraq war. This dissertation brings to light America’s control over news media in order to gain international support for Iraq invasion. |
