Abstract Reliability and Availability are being used in many applications to provide safe, reliable and efficient components, subsystem and systems. The applications of reliability, availability and risk assessment are: aircraft, nuclear power plants, military installations, petrochemical and petroleum fuel, chemical industry and medical equipment. The nuclear industry has a goal of improving plant availability and reliability. Because achieving high reliability and availability in nuclear power plant requires to maintain a high degree of safety and achieving economics goal. So, achieving high plant availability requires high availability of the primary cycle, secondary cycle and safety and emergency systems. The general subject of the present study is making qualitative and quantitative evaluation for Auxiliary FeedWater System (AFWS) of Pressurized water reactors of Advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR-1400). Qualitative evaluation of AFWS using Double Failure Matrix as inductive method and Fault Tree analysis as deductive method. Quantitative evaluation of unavailability for AFWS based on optimization of the test interval to increase the availability of system by using FRANTIC code. Results show the verification of FRANTIC code, optimum test intervals cannot be solved for single components of the system but the test interval shall be optimized for the system as all and, Coleman & Abrams and Jacobs methods combined with perfect staggered test have the lowest total mean system unavailability. Hirsch method has the lowest unavailability due to test. |
